Welcome to my eclectic journey of my life and delights. This year my theme is surrendering my writing pen to the true author, Jesus Christ, while looking forward to the future, reflecting on the past and dancing through my journey.

Table of Wisdom or Folly

My scripture reading this morning led me to the visual of the beautiful tables where we all enjoy sitting and dining.  All across the web you can learn how to entice your guest with your beautiful table.  The world does the same.  The enemy knows how to invite you to dine at his table.

Wisdom has built her spacious house with seven pillars.  She has prepared a great banquet, mixed the wines, and set the table.  She has sent her servants to invite everyone to come.  She calls out from the heights overlooking the city.  "Come home with me," she urges the simple.  To those without good judgement, she says, "Come, eat my food, and drink, the wine I have mixed. Leave your foolish ways behind, and begin to live; learn how to be wise." Proverbs 9;1-5

As I look around me I wonder how many are sitting at the table of wisdom?  Do they desire to seek wisdom?  Do I desire wisdom?

Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in understanding. Proverbs 9:10

There are the instructions on how to seek wisdom.  If I am not following the instruction manual, then I will be enticed to dine at the table of  folly.

The woman named Folly is loud and brash.  She is ignorant and doesn't even know it. (WOW, does that say tons?) She sits in her doorway on the heights overlooking the city.  She calls out to men going by who are minding their own business, "Come home with me," she urges the simple.  To those without good judgement, she says, "Stolen water is refreshing, food eaten in secret tastes the best!"  But the men don't realize that her former guests are now in the grave. Proverbs 9:13-18

My desire is for more than a beautiful table with tasty food....my desire is for wisdom and not folly.

You set a beautiful table... There is a line about Folly that zings out to me...she doesn't even know that she is ignorant. Perhaps it was the extra WOW you gave it, but that really does speak volumes. We are in the middle of a prostitution scandal up here in Maine so everything about Folly is striking a sour note.

Amen! We have to be intentional about our intentions to choose wisdom over folly. This is my prayer as well.

Love this post!

P.S. Thank you for stopping by my place today and for your kind words. Have a blessed weekend. :)

This is a beautiful reminder. I love that passage because it is so visual because poor wisdom can be silently enticing. Thanks for the beautiful visual of the richness of sitting at God's beautiful table of wisdom.

Proverbs 1:7 says that fools despise wisdom and instruction. I know I have to pray for both every day because the Lord has all the answers I need to live my life to the fullest.
You set a lovely table.
Blessings~

It's SO challenging to keep the "Main Thing" the Main Thing - especially with all the beautiful blogs and enticements in shops and stores...

I guess no matter the era, the tactics of the enemy of our souls is the same.

Thanks for posting the Caution Sign so clearly & beautifully, Janette.

First, I have to say that I love that table. I'm always distracted by the pretty tables... I'm like a little kid that way.

As to the rest of this, well just plain AMEN to it. I love the part about Folly not even knowing that she's ignorant. Proverbial words so aptly spoken!

Yes we need to take the time to have a table of wisdom. Lots of investment but our kids will remember. I pray that this year I will put even more time and prayer to gather the family around the Lord's wisdom. Thank you for the reminder.

Blessings and ((HUGS))
