Welcome to my eclectic journey of my life and delights. This year my theme is surrendering my writing pen to the true author, Jesus Christ, while looking forward to the future, reflecting on the past and dancing through my journey.

Lazy Susan Face Lift

Years ago, we purchased a kitchen table which served eight.  At that time, there were only seven in our family and the whole crew was very vocal about the need to fill that extra seat.  Years went by and the first to fill the seat was our future daughter-in-law, then later our little Benjamin made number eight in our family.  With this square table came a Lazy Susan giving very handy access to delicious dishes.  However, a Lazy Susan and four boys means you have just invested in a kitchen table weapon.  The boys would spin the Lazy Susan with such force that the dishes would fly off, defying gravity's pull.  So Lazy Susan was vanquished to the kitchen pantry.  This week I decided to bring her back out for a face-lift and possibly the younger boys will not be as eager to use her as a table weapon...yea! right!

I began by looking through pictures on- line of other Lazy Susans that were painted. I marked out eight spaces with my pencil and began creating.

I grabbed leftover paint from my kitchen.  I kept the black and white checkered theme and threw in some Mary Engelbreit cherries.

I couldn't help but replay different conversations around the kitchen tables that occurred through the years, while painting words upon the Lazy Susan.

I had to add our family initial and the year this family was created.  Since our daughter's new name will also start with a "W," this Lazy Susan design will hold everyone's last name initial.

The Bible will hold Matt. 4:4 - "Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

The red circle around the "W" will hold all our names.

I enjoyed painting.  It was really so relaxing and energizing. I must find more time to partake in this art form...now let's see, when will I find that time?

My part/part time job of keeping children for church events increases these next few months through the holidays.  It has been fun to rock babies and listen to young adults talking, some mothers, others not.  I have also been getting into people's homes one way or another.  I have been doing some cleaning and advising on decorating issues.  Even while cleaning homes, my mind is rearranging and decorating the house in my head....somehow my brain just works that way.   But as I mentioned in a recent post, we must learn to "feed our souls" and I think painting is one feeding I need to take the time to do.

Sometimes we all can just use a "face-lift"... and a new outlook on life.

Prayers for all affected by the storm Sandy...and for those we know coming from Texas to help.

That turned out so cute. I am so glad that you brought it out. I had to laugh, because I know ours would have been a weapon too. Just like the foot part in the recliners. I walked in one day to see the baby go flying through the air after he had been catapulted through the air. The older boys laughing and the baby saying " do it again. " Yep, those are wonderful memories. My kids never thought there was too many around the table either. Have a wonderful day.

Good morning! I LOVE this! Soo neat. And yes my boys too would have used this as a weapon...haha. Glad the part time job is working out. Why is it I find myself rearranging furniture in my head too sometimes when I am at others homes? I soo get that. Enjoy your day!

Well "ah cain't believe it." (Did I just sound like Loretta Lynn, because I was trying to.)

I JUST bought a lazy susan for a buck at a garage sale on Saturday. I was planning to use it inside a cabinet because I'm sort of addicted to the things. I think I might have to copy cat you with it instead. I mean, if I mess up, it was just a buck. I can paitn over it.

I love yours!! (And isn't it cute that God had you buy that table way in advance of Benjamin, knowing all along that you were an eight seat family?

It came out so nicely! A real family treasure. I hope that everyone can use restraint because a Lazy Susan can make meal time so much more relaxed and pleasant.

A terrific idea - one of a kind and a conversation piece, to boot! Great job - "soul feeding" through artistic endeavors. I jump at the change. See what I did with Cassandra as the hurricane was coming upon us over the weekend? And, how the Lord held us safe and strong just 40 minutes from the landfall shoreline which devastated our lovely seashore spots. A favorite beach doesn't even exist anymore. Roads onto the island washed out so people can't even get back to their homes. We, on the other hand, had power throughout and not a drop of water inside or tree limb out of place. God is good - so thankful - and praying He makes the way for our state to rebuild. But, not - I suppose - in time for our woman's retreat that was to have been this weekend in Ocean City - presently under water. Sigh.
Joy!

This is really beautiful! I love it! It looks like something from a high end decor store. Just the other day I took out the Lazy Susan my dad made for my mom many, many years ago and polished it up. It's now on my dining table and we're enjoying using it.
Blessings~

Love this Janette! You've got talent girl. I especially love the "man does not live by bread alone" part.

This made me laugh: "kitchen table weapon. The boys would spin the Lazy Susan with such force that the dishes would fly off, defying gravity's pull."

And did you say your daughter will have a new name?

Wonderful to catch up with you today.

Janette,
The lazy susan is turning out wonderfully. (No surprise there:))
Never had one at the table, but it sure could come in handy!

From one artist to another, I agree! We must make time to follow that pleasure. I know I have not made the time and I miss it. I started taking Fine Art lessons when I was twelve, and it has been a passion ever since. I need to re-indulge that passion again. Thanks for the reminder.

And, your work is beautifully crafted, Janette. You are such a talented lady!

The Lord has given you a gift Janette! I am so glad you are having opportunities to use that gift. I love the Lazy Susan; so creative and unique. You could sell these in an Etsy shop!

I do believe that we may not get to choose all of our circumstances. However, we do get to choose our response to those circumstances. I am cheering you on friend as I love your creative response. What a joy to read this post!

Love you,
Debbie

I sure appreciate your creative genius. It's fun to see how you take a piece like the lazy susan and turn it into a treasure. I'm not quite so gifted (mostly because I have a shortage of patience), which is why I appreciate your talent all the more.
