I NEED GERITOL

Do you remember these commercials?  As a young girl I am sure I made fun of them and snickered at the "OLD" people who might need a boost in their energy.
Now who doesn't remember this....Lucy and Vitmeatavegamin?  Again, looking for the fountain of youth in a bottle.

Well, this newly-turned 50-year-old got up on Monday morning to... a house that was more than in need of deep cleaning, a refrigerator that looked like an animal had pawed through it and left behind undesirable edibles, a 15-year-old needing to finish math and Shakespeare, a five-year-old's left-behind, vomit-soaked sheets screaming to be washed, and him wanting to be taught to read...."c-c-c-c-c-c-c-a-a-a-a-a-t-t-t-t-t", without falling asleep.  I heard commerical jingles playing in my head...........I NEED GERITOL!!!

Now I also have to say I am a woman who tries to live right. I know that you take herbs, vitamins, eat organic foods, drink water and exercise, trying to turn back the hands of time, if at all possible.   But as the title of a book I just finished tells us...50 is still 50!!!

I run to the source of my strength.  He encourages with me with the watering of His word and gives me practical suggestions for the journey.

Since I need to be this...

Without surviving on this!!!
I turn to the physical sources that will boost my energy for my continued journey of home-schooling a high school student, preparing  my kindergartner, being a wife, a home executor (self-maid) and a daughter of the King, whose body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.(can you hear the little kids song, "our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit"?)
  • Grabbing out my walking DVD...I am now at three miles in 36 minutes and gaining more mileage...my energy is boosted
  • Grabbing another glass of water to cleanse out those toxins that slow you down
  • Asking the Lord to renew my zeal for cleaning house and home-schooling...He alone can take what seems old and bring it back to life
  • Reading resources that increase my desire to finish all of the races that are set before me
  • Laughing while thinking about how much energy will be required when my 5-year-old becomes a teen!
How is your January coming to an end?  Has God given you some Geritol for the journey?
Don't forget a good laugh can cover a multitude of not-so-perfect days and boost your energy!
My Post-Christmas-holiday-refrigerator-cleaning is now done....would you like to come to dinner?

I remember Geritol! lol! That does sort of give away our ages, doesn't it?

I still feel like hibernating but spring is just two months away.

What a fun collection of thought and pictures. Those Geritol commercials used to rule the TV - and I remember them well (along with Ipana Toothpaste) ...

I dare not begin my day without time alone with the Lord. No matter what I have to face - fun or tough stuff - it is best & easiest handled from a foundation of peace. I like that you rightly mentioned humor. It's a better tonic than anything I know!

Be Geritolized today!

haha I remember those commercials for sure...You have alot still on that plate of yours Janette, but I just know you are doing such a good job of keeping up with it all. You do everything you do and STILL manage to write such an interesting, entertaining, and spirit filled post soo frequently...I am not sure how you do it. I am 6 six years ahead of you on that road and I feel accomplished just getting one or two up a week, haha....Have a wonderful week-end my friend...and YES I would LOVE to come to dinner ~ maybe someday! = )

I don't remember the Geritol commercials, but this post sure makes me laugh. Happy Birthday, by the way, Janette, and I'm thankful for the wisdom God has given you. You are a blessing, and I really do understand mornings like the one you've described. Love and hugs!

Well, don't know what to tell you except Geritol I think is worse than feeling tired. I can still remember the taste, I did a commercial sitting in the sink when I was little. Keep walking it does help I think. I think though having sick ones just makes it look worse. I will be praying for you.

God and YOU beat Geritol! Thank you for the lift I always find here. I feel encouraged by your own real struggles, humor and solutions. I've been struggling to laugh lately and unhappy with my own parenting during these snow days with strong willed but weak eared children... I'm drinking water, trying to find quiet time alone outside and praying LOTS. You inspire me!
(((hugs)))

That is so funny. Yes, I would love to come for dinner, even if your fridge wasn't cleaned out! What walking DVDs are you using? I have the Leslie Sansone ones- need to get back to that :)

Janette,

No, I don't remember the "geritol" commercials, but I sure remember Lucy's little bit with that crazy potion in a bottle.

I'm not 50 yet, only in my 40's, and I am already seeing that my physical body is lowering in energy, and I just can't do the same things I did when I was in my 20's and 30's. Sometimes, it is quite discouraging.

I think I am one of those that tries to "turn back the hands of time" with various "things," but I am slowly learning that this is not to be. It's a hard lesson to learn, but I am being forced to learn it, ha!

May the Lord give us all the strength and energy to be the women of God that we need to be.

LOL, love that vitvegamina... segment! A Lucy classic. She was SO clever.

And sure, I remember Geritol too!

Sounds like you have your health and fitness routine under control. You're an inspiration!

OMG! I haven't thought about Geritol in forever. How funny! I take the biggest handful of vitamins and I sure hope they are doing what they are suppose to do. :o) I listen to inspirational podcasts on my Ipod while I walk on my treadmill each morning. You might enjoy that too. I love Chuck Swindoll, Nancy Leigh DeMoss and Charles Stanley.

A great post! Have a fun week-end!

you're doing all the right stuff! i wonder
what geritol tastes like and if it is even
around anymore. granny used to swear
by her 'tonic', which i think was actually
moonshine. :)

maybe she had the right idea!

I got a good laugh from your post and that will be my Geritol for the day! (even though I'm "only" 38!) :)

Thankful the Lord gives us joy and laughter -- I had to remind myself of "Serve the Lord with gladness" more than once this week as I cleaned up the results of sick tummies from 9 people....

Note: if a toddler says, "Mommy, I'm going to frow up on your pillow" you should ALWAYS believe them!!! :)

Do they still sell Geritol? I hadn't thought about it in years.

I like your advice, by the way.

I find that drinking enough water is difficult for me in the colder months. I guess I just want warm comfort food.

Love the post!! I do some of the same things!! I'm also trying to reduce my sugar intake!! Heard that could be part of the problem!! Have a great weekend!

I need some geritol myself--or I could skip the geritol and take your suggestions. Such good ones--all I need is determination and I am determined to find that in the coming week. Great post.

Hi Janette -

Thank you for this humor journey.
There is nothing like holy Geritol.

Psalm 92:14-KJV
They shall still bring forth fruit in old age;...

I'm 54 and love our Lord more now than I did years ago. Then I loved Him - now I am in love with Him! The many tests and trials taught me that only GOD is forever faithful!

Yes, I remember Lucy's antics. That was one funny show.

To me, programming back then was humorous but wholesome.

Remember Father Knows Best, Leave it to Beaver, and Ozzie and Harriet? They all had strong men in the homes.

I would LOVE to come to dinner!

Geritol - I SO remember that -

My January is coming to an end with me limping across the finish line! It's been a FAST month, and I'm pooped. But God is there, providing the Bread of Life for nourishment, and Living Water to refresh me. He's FAR BETTER than Geritol...

GOD BLESS!

50's the new 50? That's all you got for someone like me?

Well, thanks for the warning at least.

Hangeth thou in there.

So pleased to meet you,
Dawn

Happy birthday, Janette! I think the same practices apply to my life at 62!

Somewhere I got it in my head that Geritol was high in iron....I wonder what its secret ingredient actually was?
