Welcome to my eclectic journey of my life and delights. This year my theme is surrendering my writing pen to the true author, Jesus Christ, while looking forward to the future, reflecting on the past and dancing through my journey.

Be Careful Little Eyes

While singing along with Casting Crowns song "It's a Slow Fade," my four-year-old became quiet and still when the little girl began to sing.  When she was finished, he announced that he "liked that song."  Knowing he wasn't interested in the body of the song, I started singing the familiar Sunday School song.  I went through all the verses..."be careful little eyes, ears, feet, and hands."

Finishing up the song with the chorus ringing in my ears, "There is a Father up above who is looking down in love". I heard my son say, "sing it again!"  So, like any good mother, I started from the beginning of the song.  By the second verse, I knew that God was wanting me to hear this song.

The adult verse from Casting Crowns states it is a slow fade.

My son then got quiet at the end of the second time through and announced that he had seen something he should not have... a teachable moment for both of us.  As we talked through the matter, I also heard "it is a slow fade".   How easy it is for us to lower our standards as the job of parenting goes through the years.

I have been accused of being legalistic and the bad mom who wouldn't allow a show, toy, activity or (fill in the blank) but along this journey of 26 years, I had allowed "a slow fade".  My four-year-old was reminding me that he still had a very tender heart, and I had a responsibility to guard it.

If you haven't watched the video...I hope you will.  How have you allowed  "a slow fade" in your life? Please don't share it,  just remember that God is a God of second chances, and thank Him for those small words of correction. "There is a Father up above and He is looking down in love!"

Blessings to you all...as I continue to live in grace, while training my two younger children.

I love, love, love this song. It's so true about the slow fade. We are constantly being bombarded with ways to start fading -- in ourselves and in our parenting. It takes much diligence to keep our eyes fixed on Christ, and Him alone.

Blessings on your day.

Rachel

It is an awesome song and a powerful message. It is just soo easy to do sometimes without even really noticing that we do. I think your kids are very blessed indeed. Have a wonderful day my friend, Debbie

Watched part of the video ... will try to watch more later (getting ready for Bible class tonight).

We didn't allow some things into our home either, and I don't think it hurt the kids, now 24, 21 and 17. Some thought we were ridiculous, but that is ok. I agree with your comments. Good post.

Thank you dear friend. There are times when I feel like an alien in this world because there are so many things we do not allow our children to do that others allow theirs to do. Like 400 minutes of sex education at school for the 5th graders-only one other mother pulled her child out-a friend of Alyssa's out of about 90 5th grade student's. I could not believe that out of all those people only two of us thought that was not acceptable and it was our responsibility of the parents to teach our children about this. Anyways I went to the parent meeting and almost thought maybe I am being too over protective and crazy like every one thought and then I prayed about it again (both my husband and I did) and we just believed God was telling us NO to this and we needed to pull her out. So even though it wasn't the norm and we looked weird as we could in the eyes of the world and all those other 89 parents and the teachers we didn't care and I am still glad we did it.
I had a icky day and no one at the school is stepping up to the plate with Brandon's broken arm when it is their fault-I left my job and it was Alyssa's last day in elementary-It was an emotional day, and I am drained and I started second guessing everything but after reading your post I know I need to stand my ground and believe what we have done and are doing to protect our kids it the right thing.
I love this song too-I hope you have a great day-thanks again for your posts always being such a blessing to me.
Love
Jill

Hi Janette, You are never legalistic when you abide by the Word of God, we too were accused of being legalistic many years ago.God bless you for taking a stand . It seems that you are doing it right.

Thank you for coming by today and for your most encouraging words.
Enjoy your weekend.
Hugs,and blessings,

That is one of my most favorite songs and every time I hear it I'm reminded to examine those areas of my life where I might be slowly fading, drifting, missing the mark.

This is my first time to your blog. I looked at your profile picture and saw the number "30" and assumed that was your age. How on earth is it that you've been married for 30 years and have grown children? You look great!

What an awesome video. I remember a pastor one time talking about this subject. He said that when we hear of a man (or woman) running off with someone (especially a man or woman in the church), we might be shocked, but it didn't just happen. There were a lot of "hidden" sins that led up to this obvious one. Thank you for sharing.
Blessings,
Marcia
