Some of my grandmother's music that was left to me! |
Before God called her home she called to let me know the songs she wanted sung by my husband at her funeral.
The week before her death I walked around my home singing the old hymns, hearing my grandmother's voice, knowing heaven was preparing for her arrival.
This week our home school community lost two mothers, leaving behind children and another young home school student. The mother's lost their battles with cancer and the student went home to be with the Lord after a wreck. Our close friends watched their elderly mother enter glory after her struggle with cancer.
So on Sundays I am going to post a song that spoke to my heart during the week. The post will be dedicated to my grandmother, who is singing her lungs out in heaven.
This week's song is "Home Free" by Wayne Watson. This is the song that God comforted my heart with when He gentle ushered my Aunt into heaven, after her struggle with cancer. I don't know this woman, but she represents all the women I know who have had the Ultimate Healing and are "Home Free". *Please if the video is too much, just close your eyes and listen to the words...they are a healing balm.
13 Joining in with more words:
I know you must cherish the
music your grandmother left to
you! That's such a very sweet
remembrance.
The Wayne Watson song touched
my heart many years ago when I
first heard it. It's so true
and encouraging. One day we will
all be home free with every tear
dried and all sorrows gone.
Love,
Sandy
I'm sitting here bawling, looking at the faces of those sweet children that lost their mother. What an amazing video.
I'm so sorry for all the loss that has touched your world lately. I'm so grateful to know that someday we will all be going home.
I love that you sing as a way of remembering your loved ones. That is so beautiful!
Cancer...I know so many people battling with that right now, even right here in my neighborhood, and quite a few in blogland. I guess all we can do is pray...
What a beautiful Grandmother you had.
I am so sorry to hear of these young mothers and the young student passing on. It is never easy, despite their trust in the Lord. Families left behind without the touch of their mother, brother, sister etc.
The video you posted was so moving. What a sudden illness she seemed to suffer from. Her smile remained consistent through it all. Even the children and husband showed great strength and peace at her memorial day.
It goes to show how much we must treasure each and everyone of our precious family and friends. We must make every day count, even our own.
Bless you Janette...
Hi Janette,
Just stopped by to say hi and thanks for your precious email. I am just now catching up on emails and visiting my blogging friends, so an email back is on the way.
I love that you will be sharing songs on Sundays from your Grandmother. Singing is balm for the soul and always lifts my spirit. I must admit, I couldn't bring myself to watch the video, as it hits a bit too close to my heart right now. This week, I'll take your word that the song was inspiring and moving. :)
It sounds like it has been a hard week of losses. They are lucky to have you in their lives as I'm sure God is using you to bring comfort to their lives and hearts.
Much love,
Stacy
Hey there! Great memories ~ What a blessing.
Have a glorious week!
Janet
My grandma had a beautiful alto voice too and loved the old hymns. I always think of her when I hear one.
Tears.... I "lost" my grandmother in August - last living grandparent - but she is joyfully spending eternity with my grandpa and her Savior. What a good post - may the Lord comfort you especially today.
So sorry to hear of the losses, so many at once, what a blow to your community...I lost a dear, dear friend to cancer several years ago and it shattered her immediate family (four children)...may your community hold on to those precious children left behind that they might be enveloped by God's love during the healing process...and may the mother suffering the loss of her child be comforted through the community, as well...healing from the loss of a loved one is such a personal, intimate process...may the Lord our God be with each and every one of you during this time!
Music is such a wonderful way in which the Lord speaks to our hearts...the song you posted is a soothing balm!
oh, you are so sweet to say, "if you find this
too hard just close your eyes and listen."
i remembered it just as i began to feel
overwhelmed.
so moving that i did have to look away.
i had a singing grandmother, too, one more
thing we have in common. this saturday i
sang at a funeral of a dear classmate and
sort of 'lost' it. so humbling to be that
fragile in front of all the 'kids' i went to
school with.
I know that music in the heart is a gift from God. It has helped me through so many trials and has also been a family fun thing we've done together down through the generations. Even when I am having trouble sleeping, I will sometimes lull myself to sleep by humming a quiet tune in my head. (in my head so hubby can sleep without hearing me!)You will have to pop over and hear my girls and 4 yr old granddaughter singing together on the video I put on my post on Sunday.
It's so special that you are going to start your Sunday Singings post in honor of your grandmother. I'm sure she will be smiling as she looks down on you and hears this sweet sound Janette.
I never heard of singings but it sounds like fun. What a wonderful Grandma you had and that she loved the Lord and to sing! I love that your husband sang the songs she chose for her funeral.
My mom had her whole funeral planned in advance. She even wrote out the songs and who to ask to sing them. It made it so much easier for us when the time came. She even left a letter for each one of her children. It was so special to receive that after the funeral.
Love you,
Debbie
Thanks for sharing this at just the right time... I will think of your sweet Grandma's singing and feel better...
(((HUGS to YOU as you face these losses)))
