As my nest grows smaller it is funny to watch when my adult children ask for a "hand". Although their independence from me is a good indication of a job well done, a mother's heart still needs to know that she is needed...every so often.
Sanding all the surface for the base coat...this old piece will be transformed for a 19 year olds apartment.
Base coat of "pepto bismal pink!", Behr crackle brushed over all surfaces (the darker pink drawers has been coated with the crackling)
The top coat is a white with just a small tint of pink. The crackling affect starts immediately.
Finished product...ready for delivery to her new apartment, where she plans to adorn the finished dresser with personalized knobs.

Looks great! I have never seen the "cracking effect" before. Soo different. I LOVE it.
You know it's funny. They all leave home SURE they know everything, but eventually they have all called me more and more with, "Mom, what should I do?" or "What do you think?" or "Mom, can you PLEASE help me?" haha I love it of course. Your right, we all need a little help once in a while. Even at 56 I still need that once in a while from my own mom. Even if it is just to hear her say, "Debbie, this too shall pass." What a wonderful gift God gave to us in motherhood. Both being one, and having one. Have a wonderful dau Janette. HUGS
I love that look. It turned out awesome but how do you crackle?
Yes, I know what you mean....one of mine called yesterday, breathless, in tears and it broke my heart. She still wants her mom, even as a young adult, when she's hurting. Skinned knees, bruises and cuts are so easy to fix. It's the affairs of the heart that make me feel so helpless.
Great job on the dresser Janette. Do you know how to get rid of crackling? I have it on my bathroom walls and it needs to be redone. It was like that when we moved in, but I would like to find the easiest way to paint over it (since I am not handy like that!).
So nice and I love the dresser. It looks wonderful. What fun. I love how the crackle stuff looks.
Wow! Can you come and lend ME a hand? I need to redo (either paint or stain) our bedroom suit which I've had since I was a teenager (and my parents bought it used then). I still like the bones of it, but it's worn.
Anyway, great job! What a lucky girl to have such a talented mom! You know, I'll be 40 this year and I still look to my mom for help from time to time.
it is good to have them still come to us for advice, or a hand. and though we will always be their parents the relationship changes when they are on their own and have their own families. and i anticipate asking for their hand from time to time as well. :)
what a great job you did on the dresser!! i would love to see the knobs she chooses.
That dresser turned out beautifully! Pepto bismol pink... so pretty!
(My daughter calls me long distance for decorating advice. Does a mother's heart good.)
(((Hugs)))
Janette,
Love the dresser! Isn't it fun to crackle paint!
Needing a little hand is something we all do.... how funny I just phoned my father- and after all these years I find myself requesting "a little hand"!
And delighted my parents are when they know they can give us advice, love, support or direction in parenting and now...moving!
I will send an e-mail when I get time....would love to catch up with you!
Peace,Love&Smiles

Wow! The dresser turned out
great. So pretty. I love the
crackled paint look. I think
it's so dear that your daughter
needed your help and you were
right there as a good mother
should be. I know she will love
the dresser. Hope she gets those
pretty glass knobs. They would
just make it.
Hugs,
Sandy
The dresser is beautiful. You already know that I'm a real believer in re-cycling... and this goes beyond anything I've tried.
The real message though, that our hands and hearts are still needed, that's what I loved the most!!
Hugs!
Yeah for mom! I know I still need my mom at 40 sometimes and there is a piece of me that hope and prays I will be here and mine will still need a piece of me at that age too.
The dresser looks fabulous! I have only done crackle two times but I liked it.
Hope you have a great day friend. I am going to try to go to the court house today to get my official business license for my lotion bars. I got some knew trays to make them in and they have turned out so cute. I will post on it later.
Blessings Friend,
Jill
Being a mom brings with it a lot of job security. They will always come back when they need help! lol
The dresser looks great!
Hi, I came over from Lis (So I Begin This Journey). Your blog is a delight. As I read a few of your recent posts, my heart felt refreshed by the way you share your heart. So refreshing.
Just wanted to leave this comment. I know it's not required, but personally I believe that it's the polite thing to do after reading another person's blog.
Blessings!

Well, count me in, too. I love it when our 26 and 29 year old children call for help, advice, etc.
Such a great stage of life.....
WOW! Great job, Janette! love the finish, and isn't IT wonderful to know that our children never out grow us. lol I still haven't out grown my mother, truly a beautiful job, and your daughter will enjoy it for a long while.
Hugs,
Sue
Your such a great mama :-) I've got mine leaving and coming home. The haven't seemed to go where they can take their "stuff" yet though :-) They've moved out to work at camps, which means most of their "stuff" stays here. Someday I'll get that room :-) Of course, then I'll miss their stuff being there.
Blessings,
Marcia
This is such a beautiful treasure, Janette! She'll never want to part with it because it was crafted by her Mama's loving hands.
Knowing that my son is about to move out I have be storing old furniture that I no long wanted in the house so I can give it to my son. I also have some other things set aside for him.
We must have been thinking along a similar theme when we both wrote about "moving out".
Love it! What a lucky girl... To have such a wise AND talented mother!
hugs,
Leslie
Love it. Especially since I'm crackle-impaired.
I have 3 boys. Two of them have moved back in numerous times. Drives me cah-razee. (I'm the wicked stepmother, btw) Daughters are different. They plan, they work, the work their plan. Congrats!
Would love for you to stop by Sunday and link up to Passion for Paint!
