Why Don't They Get It?

goole image...Tower of Babel...they didn't get it either

Why don't they get it?

How many times have you said that or thought that?  I am sure it is dozens and dozens of times.  As a mom we can become frustrated with repeating ourselves over and over again in the training of our children.  These words or thought can also pour out through other areas of life as well....just being alive gives reason for the frustration.  Hey! let's be honest, life is just messy.
  • Health - don't they get it?  You can't eat that type of food and be healthy.  You can't refuse to exercise and hope your body just continues to stay in shape.  You can't neglect going see the doctor if there is something going on.
  • Relationships - Do they not see what is happening here?  Do they just not get it?  Do they have to see the relationship end before their eyes are open?
  • Spiritually - Do they not get it?  This is an eternal issue.  Christ died for their sins...plain and simple, salvation is a gift.  Why can't they see?
  • Financially - Don't they understand that too few deposits and too many withdraws mean you are in the negative?  Do they just not get it?
I think I could go on and on, while you could add your list of frustrations on why someone just doesn't get it.

It seems to always be clearer to the one viewing from the outside.  The person viewing from their tower can see so plainly what is happening, "they get it", while the one below is hindered by their lack of vision.

How can a blind person see the sunset?  We would ever question their ability "to get it" and yet when someone's view is obstructed they too are blind.

I climb down from my tower of frustration viewpoint allowing the Lord to show me my blind spots.  I need Him to show me a clearer view.  I need to see the view of my own "not getting it" and grace for those I love that "aren't getting it".  I need Him to remind me that He knows "they aren't getting it" and He is in control.  His view is complete, while mine is only a partial view.

May we all allow His point of view to become the glasses in which we view our circumstances through, while giving grace to those who "just aren't getting it".

However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.  I Cor. 2:9

Great post dear friend. There are so many times when I look back over my life when I am so thankful for God's redeeming love and grace for me over those times when I "didn't get it." I have also thought that many times reading stories of the Bible-like "they were in the presence of God-walking around talking to them and they didn't "get it." and then I have to stop and question "would I have gotten it then too?" Now a days if people walked around claiming to be Christ we would call them nuts-feel sorry for them-did they?
I am so glad that even when I mess up-when others see what I can't-when I don't "get it" He does and He loves me right back into His arms, takes me by the hand and walks me through it-and never leaves me even if it takes a really long time for me to "get it."
Hope you have a blessed day.
Do you go to the lighting of the lights in downtown Denton? I saw something on it and thought about dragging everyone up there.
Love ya

Wonderfully written. I can't count the number of times that retrospect gave me 20/20 vision. I also can't count the number of times that the clearer view came from stepping out of the middle and switching vantage points.

I don't doubt how frustrating it has been to be the LORD of Debbie. I'm so grateful He's a God of grace who leads me to that place of clearer vision.

I try (don't always succeed but TRY) to be as gracious. Honestly? I makes me all the more amazed at Him because sometimes I want to pull my hair right out.

Good morning! Boy have I ever walked in those shoes...pretty much every day that is. sigh....it is soo frustrating sometimes when they truly JUST DON'T GET IT....and how if they would JUST LISTEN TO ME....things could go soo much smoother for them. And yet I KNOW the Lord is thinking the same thing...DEBBIE, YOU JUST DON'T GET IT! Listen to me and things would be soo much easier. Praise God for His mercy and grace!! Right there at the top of my thankful list. Whatever would we do without it? Have a good day! HUGS, Debbie

There are so many times when I still don't get it. Must be a little dose of my own medicine when I am frustrated by others who don't. Good thing that God is in the redeeming business and it's a good thing that He has already worked it all out. We're just along to do the learning and growing.

yep, our vision is "relative". we come with our own preconceived ideas, opinions, the way we process life...
it's so easy to get frustrated with others...

thankfully there is "truth" to measure by, but we don't always see...or seek it in the middle...

you are so right...life is messy!!

I think this fits everyone, either 'not getting it' about others or ourselves, usually it's me. I am always amazed when I reflect each new time on what we have as God's children, and think anew that everything we do in life should be in thanksgiving for all He is to us. And yet...

Of all I am thankful for, the biggest thing is that He loves me in spite of...

Great post Janette!

Uh huh!
Nodding my head here.
Yep...
That's right!

It's me; it's me, O Lord. Standing in the need of prayer.

Hi Janette!

Thanks for sharing your heart on my blog! Wow - that testimony of your son's gift is remarkable and evidence of God at work in his heart and his life even at a young age. What a beautiful testimony! What a gift!

I think that is why we have so many trials and errors, because it takes lots of living to just get it.
It is important though to keep awake and pay attention. :)

Removing the plank from my eye definitely gives me a clearer perspective... An excellent truth, and something to think about from my sage friend... again. Thanks.

. . . and i just don't seem to get it, either!

i just finished oswald chamber's daily, and he
implied that we don't get it, because we focus
on the wrong thing, our commitment or
conviction, instead of on Him. our devotion
should supercede everything. He will then
help me make the right choices.

be blessed, my friend!

If and when we can learn to get and keep our hearts and minds totally focused on Him everything
will change. We will see all of
our hard and trying circumstances in a new and different light. His perspective in the ONLY one we need.
Good, good word, Janette.
Hugs~

I hear your frustration! As a Mom, we want our kids to be at a peer-level of knowledge and application. Thank God for His patience with us!

I love how He has built the "seed principle" into creation. What starts out small, grows into a huge tree, that in turn, spawns its own seed-bearing fruit. Growth takes time, lots of time. In our instant society we want everything NOW. How guilty I am of that!

The Lord has been reminding me to have "patience" lately. A timely post, Janette!

We've all thought that! Wonder why it's so easy to see everyone else's mess and so difficult to see our own? LOL!

I liked how you started out talking about the "kids" yet turned it around and pointed that finger at you.
Yes, we need God to show us. Because we just don't get it. I know I keep repeating my mistakes over and over.

Love this post!

I know God looks at me every day and sees so many places I just "don't get it" while I am grumbling in frustration about the "others" who just don't get it. I must realy frustrate Him. I've always said I was His special ed student... I do pray for grace and patience with those who frustrate me to the ends of my wits!! This is a great post, Janette... to remind me! Thank you. blessings ~ tanna

I don't even know what to say it's as if you have been listening to some of the conversations at our house.(I think I even used the phrase "when are they going to get it") So thankful for God's grace when "I don't get it"
Great post!

Did you sit in my Sunday school class yesterday? You did, didn't you? Thanks for writing this just for me.

Beautiful!
What a great reminder that we need to be a reflection of God's grace to those who are at a different place and let God show us our very own blind spots. Others might be saying "why don't they get it" about us...being blinded to the complete picture ourselves. Interesting irony there!
As you said, God sees it all but ours is only a partial view.
Thanking God for your beautiful heart!

Well, dear one, we have to remember that the enemy is in the blinding business...2 Corinthians
4:4...."whose minds the god of this age has blinded..." Only God can open the eyes of our heart.
Remember the hymn "And Can It Be"?

Thine Eye diffused a quickening ray. I woke, the dungeon filled with light....

It is a blessing to be able to see....XXOO

Yep, we all get it some of the time and others, we don't. And yes, we can always see the other guy's plight much easier than ours. Very good points. Great post, Janette.

How desperately we need the clarity of his point of view.

I was nodding in total agreement with each question you asked. Then I came to the paragraph about allowing Him to show me my blind spots...and I was humbled. It's easy for me to feel like folks should see what's obvious...and I can fool myself into thinking I've no blind spots myself.

He's my Father and allows me to learn things the hard way, when that is the only thing that will truly get my attention. I can afford others the same opportunity.

Thanks, Janette.

Super and timely post. I am at the front of the line as one who sometimes just doesn't "get it." Life has a way of humbling us and with that humility can come wisdom if we are open to it. I am hopeful that I will be yielded to seeing people and their circumstances through the lens of Love. I needed this!

Thanks for the reminder that God knows what He is doing, and He is gracious. My perspective was way off this morning and needed to be put back on track.

I've said for years that I wish we had an aerial view, but we often seem to see only "close-up". I've been the one that doesn't get it many times in my life too :)
Great Post!

Thank you for voicing what I say in my head so often. It is too easy to be critical, to think of a better way to do things, to give numerous suggestions when we are on the outside. It is probably easier for my friends and family to offer all kinds of advice on how to make my life better. Thank goodness God's suggestions are best and He is patient with me to take His advice when I am seeing more clearly.

Love this, Janette. So true.
Thank you for sharing and thank you for stopping by. As far as you not being "a deep thinker blogger," have you read your posts lately? ;)

Have a gorgeous day!

It is so easy to be frustrated by the plank in our eye, when it gets in the way of picking out someone else's sliver. It is difficult to watch someone travel the road we've been on and not heed known potholes. Prayer is the answer there. Blessings to you today!
