Do You Hear Your Mother's Voice?

Okay, if you are already laughing then you know what I did....I broke the carnal laws of washing and drying my clothes.

My mother's greatest gift to me was preparing me for taking care of my own household.  So, at the early age of 19, when I married, I never remember calling to ask for advice... I had it down.

So, the other day when I opened my dryer, I started to laugh out loud with my mother's guiding voice in the background.
  1. Always hook your bras straps together...so they will not attach to other garments
  2. Never dry your bras...hang them out to dry
  3. It is best to hand wash your bras
I guess after running my own household for 30 plus years, I must have had a little rebellion in me because I  didn't obey  the rules. I grabbed my unhooked bras and tossed them into the washer.  I then proceeded to throw them into the dryer.  Round and round the dryer went, entangling the hooks of my bras in its grip.

To my 14-year-old's horror, I called him down for assistance.  He reluctantly, with a red face, dislodged the dangling boulder holder from it wedged claws of the dryer door.

What is funny is that I did this twice in two weeks....sounds like a hard head to me.

I walked away wondering... when my adult children hear my voice, what do they hear?  Do they hear..."don't mix whites with colored clothes or you will have pink underwear", when they pull them from the dryer?  Do they remember me when pulling out melted plastic from the dishwasher?

My prayer is that they will remember more... that they will remember our prayers, our devotionals, our forgiveness, our laughter and most of all, our relationship with Christ.  I pray that memorized scripture will come back to memory when the time is needed... that all the Proverbs we read will be there for their guidance.  I hope my voice will be remembered for tenderness and love, rather than just correction.

Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching. Proverbs 1:8

Have you heard your mother's voice lately?  What was she saying to you?

lol! Glad I'm not the only one who made that laundry mistake!

Great post and a good thought to ponder today.

Okay here is a secret, I did not know you hook your bras together to keep them from doing that. How did I miss that one. I have so many of my bras with the hook bent out and I have to get pliers and clamp it back.
I will be doing that hooking them together, I know my daughters don't know that.
Yep, My Mom has been gone over 40 years and I can still here her heavy sigh, Kim... I do hope my kids don't
hear that.

I did have to laugh because I have always wondered if I am the only one who has days like that with my dryer.

So funny. I try to hook them before throwing them into the hamper because I know I am too lazy to check everything before dumping it into the machine. I often wash my son's army men. They survive though!
Have a restful weekend :)

HAHAHA....Oh soo me. I too have become rebellious in my aging process, HOWEVER, I agree with your friend. I never heard to hook the bras before you washed them. (makes soo much sense too, cuz I too have ruined many a hook) Probably cuz my mom always said, "It's best to wash them out by hand dear, that way they will last and last." I ditched that right after I married, haha. Though I did hang them for years and years which I did teach to Mel and hopefully she does...This post just made me smile Janette as all your posts do. I can both see and hear your poor son, lol. I've wondered the same things...what do my kids remember most? Seems whenever we are all together they love telling stories of my "dorkish" moments, haha, but I do pray they remember much more. Yes, I do play the piano. Not as much as I use to, but I do love to sit and play and just relax. Have a wonderful week-end. Hope you and "cast boy", haha, (that made laugh this morning soo much, again something I would soo say) enjoy getting your decs out. Hugs, Debbie

Well thanks for the tip, Mom... I never knew that one!!!

Actually, I wonder if modern Moms take the time to teach their daughters basic housekeeping skills these days. And Homeec used to be a school subject... no more!!! A pity. ღ

SO funny. And, YES, I hear my mother's voice frequently :)

Oh yeah! Been there, done that!
So funny! I always remember my
mother quoting Proverbs 22:6--
Train up a child in the way he
should go and when he is old he
will not depart from it. Guess
it could apply to laundry! Just
wait until the bra hook catches
on a favorite sweater and snags
it, then you'll really wish you'd
listened to your mom.

I hear my mama's voice concerning some things too. I got a big laugh when I saw your picture with the dryer. I can identify but not with bras. You see, I listen to my mom on that one and hang my bras out to dry. LOL.

But I've had sheets get tangled in the dryer.

Love you Janette,
Debbie

I love that you shared that picture! By the way, I learned something today too. I never knew the proper way to wash and dry bras. :)

Oh my goodness. That's funny. You know what I do? I put them in a laundry bag. That way they stay contained as they roll around.

Oh I would have laughed too if I were you!
Have a marvelous day my friend.

Syd~~>smiling!

This post brings back lovely memories of conversations with my mother when I was younger. Now that I am a mom I often hear myself passing down some of my mom's helpful hints to my daughter.

Thank you Jesus for my loving mother!

I can't tell you how many bras I've ruined because they ended up in the washer. Unfortunately I was not trained on how to wash a bra. Oh well!

I hear my Mom's voice in so many ways! She was just full of encouragement, teaching, and support. She was my best friend.
I am delighted when I realize I might sound like her...if I can be 1/2 the woman she was...I'll be thrilled. I remember her caring ways, and giving heart...always modeled selflessness to us.
Very good post, Janette! How are you doing gal...besides the boulder holder thingy? ;o) Really good, I hope!

Love and hugs to you! So great to catch up!

LOL! Perhaps our Mothers were friends?!
Beyond hooking ones bra, hand washing indeed only in Wool Lite. (not sure I have that spelling correct)
Always line dry your "under panties" and bras- keeping the bra straps smooth and untwisted.
Now with having a teenage daughter I try to give her Grandma's advice..... but there are short cuts here and there!
Each time I attempt to take a short cut and it turns out where my bra is twisted around the wringer - or it is attached to a t-shirt like a twin..... I hear my mother's sweet voice saying "oh, honey....I tried to tell you so".
Fun post Janette!
