Now I have heard it said that fences make good neighbors. So what do you call it when a fence isn't a fence, but a headboard?
Stretching her mother's decorating desires I submitted to the design of a rough headboard. What my mind's eye saw was a padded headboard out of drop cloth with two birds painted on each side at the top of the headboard. The birds would reflect the image of the bird in the accent pillow I had bought for this bedroom ensemble. I could just see it against the backdrop of the walls I painted...but hey, I am only the labor and daughter had other ideas.
Off to Lowes we went...boards were bought and dropped off in my garage for me to transform these rough boards into a headboard to finish up the newly-wed's bedroom.
Well it isn't what I would put in my room...but again I am 52. However, it was exactly what the newly-wed couple wanted. The new hubby like the touch of the bow-tie painted on the bird....all credit for that idea goes to his new wife and the painter, new mother-in-law.
Now if they ever get tired of the headboard it can be turned sideways and be the first section of a fence! The birds might look a little weird...but it will be re-purposed.
One day maybe I can get a better picture and also show the side table I painted in silver...but for now, well, it is the newly-wed's bedroom.

Awesome creativity here (and the bird theme is right up my alley!) How cool that you're able to share your talent with your daughter and make her and her new hubby something unique just for them. Love it!
I think this is pretty cool...and pretty special that your daughter wanted you to do this for them
I love it and think it turned out so cute! The way you are able to transform random things into objects of beauty amazes me!
We were headboardless for many years and I often contemplated a fence headboard, or an old door, or more what you had been thinking. I had some creative ambition. Finally someone gave us their footboard which really was tall enough to make us a nice headboard and so we are set of now ... but ... Your work is very nice and it's also nice that they love it so much!
They are making it uniquely their own for this time in their lives. It's pretty nifty really. And they're not sleeping on the floor as so many newlyweds do! How nice to be invited in to help. Not all of us moms are you know. (I definitely was not. Ha!)
I think you are more talented than you know, and even so, I agree that "rough" isn't my ideal headboard.
But they are young, and if they like it - well, that is what counts. :) Great job!
I love that she wanted her talented, creative mom to do this for them..soo cute! I love it.
I need an up-close of the bow-tie. Why can't I see it? (My 64 year old eyes need new glasses, I know....) I think it's a really "cool" design idea for these two lovebirds!
I love it that they like birds! I love bird motifs, too.
Somehow, this post makes me want to sew, Janette!
You are a handy mama!
Love the headboard, and even more the attitude of the mil! :)
Hugs!
Make that MOM and mil! :)
I think it looks fantastic!! But then I love wood like that.
You do very nice work.
You know, Janette, it's just perfect for two newlywed Love Birds!
I think it's wonderful what you have so creatively done to make their ideas come to fruition. And I applaud you for that oh-so-difficult restraint we sometimes need to exercise with our grown children!!
GOD BLESS!
The headboard turned out so cute! She has an original one of a kind... made with love. Good job! :)
Absolutely beautiful! So well done with love, talent, and creativity!
Adorable! I'm sure the love birds will enjoy it for a very long time!
LOVE it! Fresh. Stylish. Unique. Perfect!! blessings ~ tanna
You are just so creative as usual! I love it. [o= I have been eyeing some kind of headboard ideas and have so many other projects on the go that I am not sure when it would happen. But, till then I can admire yours.
Blessings and ((HUGS))

what an incredible and loving God we have to give you this project to do. He knows how much you love to do stuff like this, and He timed a newlywed nest for such a time as this.
I remember loving the walls when you first showed them, and now I love this. It might be what you would do, but your daughter clearly inherited her mother's knack for creativity because it looks wonderful. Love birds! Perfect!
And btw, how cool is it that we were both thinking fences this week?
I think we are two bloggers with one heart sometimes.
i think it is very cool, something you might
find in a west elm catalog for a bazillion $,
you are amazing! two (three?) jobs, home-
schooling and headboarding. sounds like
waterboarding. :)
Fun - thanks for sharing - I think it's a cool idea..Nice job too!!
Hugs
You are so creative, Jeanette! How adorable. I can see it for them. Like you, I'm in a different generation, but I like the look. It works well for your daughter and son-in-law. You are one very talented lady!
Dear Janette,
You are so talented. I think this is quite stylish and very unique and inventive. I praise the thought and the result.
It is so nice to be visiting with you again.
I hope you are well. I think of you often and keep you in my prayers.
Blessings dear. Catherine xoxo
What a neat idea and it turned out so well. It will be something they tell their children about their first year of marriage and how they furnished their home. Good job, all of ya!
How clever are you? I love it. The headboard looks fabulous Janette.
Love,
Debbie
