In Texas there is a saying, "If you don't like the weather just wait around for 24 hours!" Well that is fine if you don't like the weather, but I was getting spoiled. We have had the mildest spring and early summer, so I was being lolled into believing that I would have another month of non-sweating outdoor pleasures.
BUT NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! In came the 100 plus degrees busting my bubble.
We had been enjoying outdoor concerts every Tuesday evening....the highest temps of 85 degrees, which for this Texas girl is almost sweater weather. We have enjoyed a group singing old Beatles songs, another singing songs from 70's to 2000's....that one Benjamin danced while my teen and I giggled.... a great concert for making you feel young again. We even enjoyed, through crisp breeze, a concert with bagpipes and violin. But remember I live in Texas, so as I packed to go hear another free outdoor concert, this time a jazz player on trombone, we decided to check the temperature. It was 104 degrees at six o'clock....................No Way! I wasn't going to make it through 104 degrees outside, even if a fountain sprinkled near by.
So what does a girl do? Well she stops canning....I mean hot is hot! She places a wreath on her door, hoping cooler weather will return, in order to continue her sail pail inspirations, and she adjust the A/C inside. She heads for the skating rink...yes I put on my skating shoes and the moms out skated the kids!! (skating goes in the spunky category)
In case I am ever thought to be too logical...which is really my nature, I reserved three days and two nights at a camp site in a State Park. (tent camping believe it or not) Now hopefully the heat of Texas summer will take a deep breath and give me a July 4th breathier.
Now for some Home-made Big Red Ice Cream, old time movies and reading, what else do you do when the temperatures zap your plans???? Oh, to stay up with the trends and the colors I am enjoying...I also painted my toes L'oreal Now You Sea Me, which is exactly what happens with that color, you see me...and it seems to make me feel cooler (both in style and body heat) I haven't decided on it, but it has been fun.
I hope you are staying cool. Prayers for rain for Colorado and New Mexico...blessings to all and to the fire fighters, rescue teams and restoration that will be needed.
Big Red Ice Cream has been made in my family since I was a little girl. You can use any soft drink. One 2-liter drink ( ours Big Red), one can of condensed milk and I add one small carton of whipping cream. Stir together and put in your ice cream maker...that is it....easy, easy and so good.

Oh my...too, too hot! At least that ice cream recipe looks and sounds refreshing.
That ice cream will keep you cool AND happy! Yum! Roller skating sounds fun! Be careful. I broke my wrist roller blading one Thanksgiving morning.
We've had hot, too. I wilt.
Yes, thank you for your prayers for Colorado. We're going down to Colorado Springs today. It's bad.
I like your happy wreath, Janette!
I am going to try that ice cream recipe. Sounds great! The skating looked like fun too. We are hoping for cooler temps for the
4th too. Blessings on your week!
I am so sorry it turned hot for you. I love the color of that ice cream. I need to try this.
I like your skates. :) I like skating better than ice skating. Both are fun though. I hope it cools down for you, our temps are starting to climb again. :)
Yep, I'm with you in the heat. The only thing I want to eat is salads. I'm a terrible skater, but I did play softball this week, which was fun.
I love how you make the best of every situation, even the weather. I love your wreath on the door; how cute and creative it is. It is triple digits here in Phoenix every day! I love your tips for keeping cool and maybe forgetting it is so hot.
Love you,
Debbie
Yummy ice cream, wished i had an ice cream maker to try the recipe :(
Living in the Caribbean I know all about hot temperatures, we also try to stay indoors otherwise a dip in the pool is always a great idea!
Stay cool and enjoy your weekend!
hey spunky girl, you just inspired my post for today! :)
I love your sense of adventure in your everyday...
xo
Well, I know how you feel about the heat! It is supposed to reach 99 here today!! It hasn't been that temperature here since 1936!! And tomorrow the weatherman said it could actually hit 100 and set a record! UGH! Thank the Lord for air conditioners!
Love your adorable wreath and recipe for Big Red.
One of my favorite ministries is located in Colorado Springs and they have already evacuated and may lose their home as well so I am really praying.
xo
Janette,
That is HOT! We are at 103 this sunny Friday afternoon.
The ice cream looks yummy. The concerts sound wonderful!
Just last week, my daughter and I were walking in hot chicago weather and she said, "I could never live in Texas." :-)
It's been incredibly hot here, too, in Northern Indiana. I am reminded of so many people in generations before us living in heat and drought. I'm thankful for air conditioning, hand's down, and the ability to wear comfortable clothing! I do hope you get a break from the heat soon!
104???? yikes. It's been pretty hot here but not 104. Love love love that the moms outskated the kids. Very cool. Sorry for the pun. :)
Sending you tons of good wishes for the 4th of July weekend.....
This is YOUR summer!
Sand pail project is such a great way to spend the summer. You won't look back and say, what did we do?
You'll know you didn't just go through the summer.
You played your way through!
Go Girl!
I have to say I want to mix your weather with mine and then there may be a happy medium. We have been in the low 70's. It feels cooler than 70's though. Is that Debbie's water melon sorbet? I want to make some! I hope you are able to keep cool this summer and I hope it warms up a bit here. And how cool ( no pun intended) that you get outdoor concerts. I love that kind of thing.
Blessings and ((HUGS))

We are cooking here and breaking all kinds of records, with no relief in site! Early this week, we were spoiled too, and worked outside most of the day, and then the100's hit , and can only stay outside until noon.
The camping trip sounds so good to me, enjoy! love to camp, but haven't in a while! Enjoy!
When I first glanced at the ice cream I thought it was watermelon, it looks so yummy. DH and i have been on an ice cream binge, and it is really beginning to show, on me,especially where I don't want it too! I haven't figured out why dh eats as much if not more than I .and doesn't gain a pound! Makes me so jealous.
I would so loved to have seen Benjamin dancing! Please tell him I said hello and give him a big hug, and tell him that i think of him so often, especially when I am out and about on the farm! As i was out digging this morning, I was wondering if he was still gardening, as knew it was hot in Texas, Susan says it is almost unbearable.
Enjoy your weekend, and stay cool.
Hugs,
Sue
I want to make some of that ice cream! We have an icecream maker, and it never saw the light of day last summer. I should have put that on my sand pail list.
And I agree about the HEAT. Goooooood grief. It hit here around Thursday with its most potent vengeance and I just had a sit down strike and pouted.
I'm trying to get my groove back. Too bad we don't have a skating rink here.
Yes, ma'am! It is heating up! It has been wonderful that y'all could enjoy those other concerts up to now. I'm thinking the Big Red ice cream sounds like the ticket! blessings ~ tanna
That Big Red ice cream recipe might just be tempting enough to go out and buy an ice-cream maker! Is that like for a regular sized maker????
And per your comment on my "power" blog, you spelled everything right! And I don't know if I've EVER gone to the gym :)
It's hot again here - not over 100, but humid. We showed our ignorance by going to some elderly (older than us) folks home to pick up/rake the branches that the wind blew down yesterday.
Sounds like you are doing your best to stay cool! The concerts and other activities are such fun ways to spend the hot summer days and your ice-cream treat a perfect ending!
Love your ideas for beating the heat. I have been craving home made ice cream and yours sounds really good!
104! Shades of Arizona! We were not that far behind here in Idaho, our patio thermometer registered at 94 today. I stayed inside with the air conditioner most of the day. Wrote, did a few projects. Love yours. You are so creative, Janette!
Oh Janette, I can't begin to tell you how thrilled I am about the gift you sent. I LOVE the bag and I love the fabric. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. You are just the sweetest.
Today is my first day that I feel normal. God must have known that I needed to go to church and have a good, positive day with Steve. I've practically been singing all day.
Love and hugs, Marla
fun to know you were off skating - I love skating -- need to do it again.. thanks's for the ice cream idea - yumm..
My dad lives in Oak City, ut and last Wed, the town people were asked to leave - the fire took over there mountain rang and nearly their town but thank goodness the fire fighter and plane and God.. there town is safe!
hugs
Hey Janette, We make sherbet, using almost the same recipe. Andy's Mom uses Big Red, but we like the HEB brand of Strawberry soda, with the eagle brand milk, but we add one carton of frozen sweetened strawberries, the HEB brand, and it is yummy! And we make orange sherbet with pineapples, same recipe, one can of eagle brand milk, 1 small can crushed pineapples, and HEB Burst Orange Soda - Delish!!
New in Him...well I know you are from Texas if shopping at HEB...great recipes..need to try those soon! Thanks for stopping by and commening
Hello sweet friend. Just wanted to tell you HI-it has been hot here too. I wanted to complain but today it only reached 98 and so our 100+ temps are cooling down. ha! Hope you have a blessed 4th. We are gearing up for the 10th. Won't find out till the 9th what time we have to be at Cook's but last time it was really early so we left at 3am. Hoping maybe a little later but I doubt it. We thought about spending the night up there but don't know if we will or not.
Love you hope all is well of the home front.
Hugs
May I just say what a comfort to find someone that genuinely understands what they're talking about online. You definitely know how to bring a problem to light and make it important. More and more people need to check this out and understand this side of the story. I was surprised you aren't
more popular because you surely have the gift.
