Welcome to my eclectic journey of my life and delights. This year my theme is surrendering my writing pen to the true author, Jesus Christ, while looking forward to the future, reflecting on the past and dancing through my journey.

It is Possible

yahoo image
Okay I have to set the scene first.  I am an over-middle-aged woman, trying to bring some youth back into her 50-plus-pounds-overweight body.  So what do I do?  I go to the gym.   I am a member of a very small gym which affords me the luxury of exercising alone many days.  This has made sweating my fat off more comfortable to me.  The other day I was fine with this "exercising alone" routine when my 16-year-old had to remind me that there were cameras....well thank-you very much!!  I am sure they caught me getting tackled up in the machine the other day and falling on my face...just great!

So last week I hauled my reluctant body back to the gym hoping few, if anyone, would be there.  It wasn't bad, only two young men, ages of my own sons.  One a trainer for motor-cross riders, the other a motor- cross rider...not too intimidating.

Adele's voice came powering through the gym.  I enjoy her voice and she motivates me to run faster.  While sweating and desiring to stop  I was propelled to continue as one young man began to sing with her.  It was comical.  Something I would hear at my own house.

The song was Set Fire to the Rain.  He was having fun, although no one would vote for him on American Idol or the Voice,  his comical singing inspired his trainee to continue.  Then he commented, "now listen to the words...set fire to the rain.  How dumb is that?  You can't set fire to the rain."

I started to grin as my head started rehearsing the story of Elijah and the priests of Baal.
I Kings 18:38Then the fire of the LORD fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench.

I resisted the urge to tell this young man he had forgotten his Sunday School lessons, instead, I just continued my rehearse of the Word of God. Isn't that what happened, God set fire to the rain?  Yes I realize it wasn't literal rain and it was "licking up the water", but God was going to move me to another truth. This scripture ended my thought process as the timer went off on my work out machine.

Luke 1: 37
For nothing is impossible with God."

You see, going to the gym can be good for your spirit also.  That day I left feeling I had improved my physical and spiritual health.   All it took was for one young man to start singing...oh the power of music.  Even these 50 extra pounds that need to be shed aren't impossible with God, nor anything else in life.

I love all the ways that God speaks to us.

And 50 pounds ... that is just one pound ... 50 times. Good for you for going to the gym.

I have the feeling that you find God's truths in every situation. You are doing great to be down there working out.

YES!! That's exactly what he did. He set fire to rain.

Oh, I can't tell you how you have made my mind race this morning with possibilities.

And I have to ask, could you just love Elijah any more? He gives us some of the best stories in the entire Word. I love him.

You are so funny, I didn't know there were cameras. I am glad you have a gym to go too that isn't packed.
Very good verse to remember on this day.

Hi friend, I had to giggle at your post-because like you I joined a gym here which has a senior cost and it is reasonable. I always take headphones so I can listen to music or watch HGTV. Of course we were gone for 2+ weeks and now with the puppy I haven't gone this week. I so need to, I have about 8-10 lbs to loose but I still feel very old and out of shape when I am there. I love Adele too, have a c.d. of hers. Music motivates me too. Glad you had a good time while there. I bet you will be a shining witness to those around you.
Hugs, Noreen

Yes ma'am... LOVE this! Those God-inspired workouts are the best, huh? They let us see the "big picture" -- and forget the momentary pain!

OH...I haven't been to the gym in 2 years. Every week I say I will go back. Maybe I need Adele and a motivator!

Hi Janette,
Ain't God Good! He knows we women fight exercising, so He just comes up with the best ideas, to keep away the boredom of actually doing it, and I bet the time just flew by for you too. ~smiling~. I told a friend the other day that the older I get the more I realize how much God is involved in my life, even the itsy bitsy things.

I have been off line this week, just so much going on around the farm, and I am so sorry I missed Benjamin's reveal of his room, but have seen it tonight, and I think you and him did a marvelous job. You both are so gifted and talented, and what"s more you make a great team! I sure could have used you both around here this week.
I also want to wish you a most blessed and Happy Mother's Day.
Love,
Sue

Thank you, Janette, this post really cheered me. Now, all I need is to join a gym and find some good songs. A young guy singing would help too.

I'm so proud of you!! :-)

hahaha. I laughed at the picture you painted. Love this. And I like Adele and how real she is and that she took a risk to put herself out there and it paid off. And you're taking care of you will pay off too.....you certainly shine here in blog land. Hey...wishing you an awesome mother's day.

good for you - going to the gym.

I keep trying to walk regularly, but life keeps getting in the way.

:) Oh well, we can always keep trying. Have a good day.

Have a great Mother's Day weekend. Went to Austin and brought L home for May and send him back in June. Having him home is the best Mother's Day gift for me.

This was such a cool lesson! Setting fire to the rain - yes, God indeed did do that! What else can He not accomplish?!

And keep it up, Janette. A little over two years ago I lost 35 pounds. It was well worth the effort - I feel so much better. I just know that you will accomplish this...

Hoping you're having a wonderful MOM's DAY! May all of your terrific family give you the day that you so deserve. You are an amazing woman, and a mom who teaches her children so much.

GOD BLESS!

Ah, Janette. I know why I didn't have the chance to read this sooner! It was today I needed to read your experience! I am on my own odyssey to lose weight and have struggled with motivation the last few days. Now, thanks to you and your spiritual insight, I am reaffirmed that several impossible areas of my life are not impossible when I intertwine them with God's will and ability. Thank you!
