Hillybillies Visit Shakespeare

Just in case it looks like these "city folk" have become the Hillbillies, well do not fear.  We arrived back home, rested in our beds under A/C and prepared for a picnic under the stars with Shakespeare in the Park.

"Be not afraid of greatness; some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them."William Shakespeare

The rest of our non-camping brood met us for an evening of culture.

Take Two - Jar Picnic
  • Two weeks ago my husband and I enjoyed a concert by the lake.  I prepared and photographed our picnic dinner
  • I packed my quilt from my grandmother
  • Prepared napkins, dishes, etc for a romantic evening of dinner, concert and stars
  • WHAT Happened?  I had forgot to put the memory card back into the camera
  • So Here it goes again...but I do wish you could have seen the first Jar Picnic

Mason Jars are becoming my newest obsession. I am storing items in my refrigerator with them....fruit is lasting days longer when stored  inside a jar.  I am a Texas girl, so we have always enjoyed our ice tea from a Mason Jar...fixing different flavors of drinks to be stored for later use cools off our summer heat, makes a fun treat.  Stuff a jar with salad, dessert, and even cook in them...makes it easy to grab and go.  Make ahead oatmeal in jars is a wonderful morning starter.  The best of course is canning in them...my pantry now stores salsa, roasted tomatoes, jams and sun-dried tomatoes.  Just google recipes to fill your jars and enjoy!

Sweet pictures, Janette! I have tons of jars, too, for canning. I'd like to know how you dried your tomatoes for sun-dried ones? I love them. I'd heard about putting salads in jars, but duh, never thought about putting other stuff in them - especially for a picnic! I love this idea. We like to drink out of them, too.

I have always been crazy about mason jars and I love anything in them. I used to bake cakes in them for gifts. It looks cute. I haven't done it in a while as everyone I know lives on a diet. :) Your picnic looks wonderful.
It really looks like you are having a great summer.

Oh, I'm so envious! Now, THIS looks like the perfect way to spend the time, IMO. Just plain perfect.

Love the mason jar tips. Really? It keeps fruit fresher longer? I will be dragging down more mason jars this very day, then.

Now, I'm clicking to your recipes.

Yummy! So inspiring! Could you write a post on Texas tea? I'd love to hear how you brew it, what you put in it, how you feel about it.

What a great idea! I can't wait to have my own jar picnic. Being a southern gal I, like you, really do enjoy those mason jars. Oddly, I have none so I think I need to remedy that real soon. Thanks for the prompting - great post!

what a fun idea to put a meal in a jar like that! We went to a concert tonight at Bob Bullock (Free on Fridays thru July) Museum and we just took water and choc. chip cookies! We saw people having picnics all around us, so I will have to plan better for next time!! This would really wow Wm! Ha! I mainly use mason jars for flowers. Hmm. bet I would love my afternoon iced coffee in it, too.
