Time to Pick a New Name

Yes it is that time!  It is time for me to pick a new name.  This name will be spoken out of the most precious mouths on earth....my grandchildren....it is an important name.  It is one I get to chose.  I haven't been able to chose a name before.  You are given your name from your parents, you might have a nick-name or two through the years given to you by others and your spouse might give you a name...but you never get to chose your own!

An email reminded me I needed to chose my name...the one that would be passed down through all the grandchildren to come...and I pray  there will be a lot of them. I will hear this name until I pass to see the Lord.

Now this wasn't a chore.  It pulled at my heart...I have been dreaming about my first grandchild for years.  Somehow making it official, to be printed below my picture in a album, made me really think.

I thought I had it....Mimi...that sounded cute.  Many of my friends are Mimi.  Then there was Nana...more friends have that and even  blogs declare the title of Nanas around the world.  Gigi is also cute.  Granny was my grandmother's names and my mom is Nanny.  Somehow they all didn't fit.  I kept trying them all on for size...no!

My daughter-in-law then suggested the one I had hidden in my heart.  Yes, you can call me old-fashion.  Yes, I am a Baby boomer and I am not hip.  No, I don't mind being thought of as old...I have earned it!

What is it going to be.................

                            GRANDMOMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  That is me!!!

As the child arrives and is welcomed into his/her new home then I will declare more about my first grandchild. As for right now, showers are being scheduled, adjustments to life are being made and I am trying out my new name.  It looks like before I wear my "mother-of-the-bride" title, I will be enjoying my new name.  I might just have to go back and add it to the header for the year....

GRANDMOMMY ......................do you think it fits me?

  2. Oh yes! It definitely fits since you have been one grand mommy!

I laughed when you said that you had thought you were settled on Mimi. That's the one I've been settled on for years. I even have some boxes of toys in the attic marked "Mimi and Poppy." It irks my husband, who said that HE hasn't picked a name yet.

You must be getting so excited. What a year 2013 is going to be in your family. Personally, I think the "half has not yet been told" either.

Just had to tell you that one of my grands calls me "Grandma Elvis" haha...as I am the Grandma of his with a little dog named Elvis. My kids LOVE this, as I am really not a big fan of our dog Elvis...

Soo many blessings lie ahead for you!

  11. I am so thrilled that you will have a grandchild soon, Janette!!!I also have told my son and daughter in law that when they have kids I want to be called Grandmommy. I just think it sounds so sweet, much more so than any other, especially Mimi, which sounds silly to me.

  22. First of all, congratulations--how wonderful--

Second of all, none of my friends (including me) are called by the name they had picked for themselves. Somehow the grandchild always ends up making "your choice" into something else and it is usually so so cute and their very own name for you.

So it's all good--even if your name is Mimi which is what my grandchildren call me.

You will love being a grandmommy. One of the most awesome things that has ever happened to me--8 times over!

  29. Congratulations!! What an exciting time for you! My kids have always called my Mom the traditional "Grandma" and she likes that just fine. I always called both of my Grandmothers "Grandma" and if it was in question as to which one I was referring, we just tagged the last name on there. Love, love, love Grandmommy. Can't wait to hear all about little one's arrival.
