Just Had to Do It - Thanks Lucy

As I entered my warm car, after my morning work-out, I heard the announcement, "Pick and Stomp Grapes" at a local vineyard.  Since endorphins from exercising were still pumping through my body I said, "Why Not?"  I ran into the house to get ready, trying to beat our up-coming 100 plus degree day with an early picking time.  Benjamin was grabbed as I ran out the door for our first experience in picking and stomping grapes.  What can I say...I just had to do a little Lucy dance!

Yes!!! I joined him!  It was just too much fun!  What else do you do in Texas in August?

Well this was a first for our family.  Benjamin and I are the only ones who have stomped grapes.  I am marking my calendar for next year.  We also went by a farm that will allow us to come pick cotton in October, so I am pulling out the calendar...why stop when summer is over?

Isaiah 1:5 - Let me sing for my beloved my love song concerning his vineyard: My beloved had a vineyard on a very fertile hill.

  1. I wish I lived near you Janette! I would love to go stomp grapes with you and Benjamin. Ethel and Lucy did it and it's one of my favorite episodes of I Love Lucy. I need a good laugh.

    Love you,
    Debbie

  2. Fun! Good for you! You're good at coping with the heat! I wish I wasn't such a wimp, but I honestly avoid certain activities because I'm so hot! Picking and stomping grapes sounds worth it, though!

  3. This is so wonderful to read and see, Janette. Your heart exudes with a zest for life that contaminates. You remind me of my close friend Trudi from England. I had so much fun with her because of her love for life. She's back in England now after ten years in the Philippines. I miss her... but this post reminded me of her. She's exactly the kind of person who would grab me by the arm, jump into her truck and go for it.

Glad I stopped by your post today, and also to catch up with your life.

    Love

I can't wait to see how you like that in October. This is a very fun post. Did it stain your toes?

  7. Hi Janette! Grape stomping and Lucy - a favorite episode! My hometown and our general region is ripe with vineyards, too - though there has never been a winery event inviting the public to stomp grapes. At our Founder's Day event each year (my town is named for the vineyards - Vineland) we provide grapes and pans and the kids get to stomp grapes for fun. Sooo - do they use the grapes you stomp to actually make the wine?

Been almost absent from Blogland this summer - OVERWHELMED with getting some projects off the ground. Hope to get into coasting and posting mode soon. Missing my writing and reading playtime - truly - blogging is a guilty pleasure sometimes.

    Joy!

  11. Oh! my goodness! this is so precious! I know you both had so much fun! I am so jealous! DH brought one of our grapes from the vine in today we are about two weeks away from gathering. After reading this I might be tempted to stomp some in a barrel!
Janette your pail is absolutely getting full!
I have so missed not being in blogland but have been so busy working and enjoying Miss M, and getting ready for the girls and Susan this week.

Please say Hi to Benjamin and give him a big hug for me. Our ewes have been lambing and he would have enjoyed being here with them,Please tell him that Benita and the other cows jumped the fence and were loafing in the woods for three days, and we sure could have used him in helping with the round-up.
    Blessings,
    Sue

  17. This is something I would just LOVE to do...got to be some degree of satisfaction in smashing grapes between the toes, kinda of like popping bubble wrap. Great memory for you and Benjamin

  18. Very cool, Janette. I wonder how it felt on the toes....I hear picking cotton is very hard, painful work. The cotton plants have sharp edges where the cotton matures. Can't wait to hear about that little expedition.
