We all have had them. You know. The day that you need at least two cars to get everyone to their desired destinations and hopefully on time.
Well, so was the case on Friday. School schedule had changed from early-morning basketball boy to afternoon baseball practice, which allows him to sleep in later. However, Benjamin still has school north of town on Mondays and Fridays. Usually this wouldn't be a problem. I would take one, while hubby took the other and both would arrive on time.
Hubby had a meeting on Friday, eliminating one driver and one car, so I had to recruit someone. The best choice was "Sissy". Now "Sissy" is the most popular member of the family. Benjamin made "Sissy" a Valentine's card at school instead of me! So, I called upon "Sissy" to help deliver one of the two to school.
Sissy was to meet me at a certain destination "ON TIME" so I could drop off Benjamin, while I proceeded to swing around to retrieve teen baseball boy. Now she has one of those phones that does everything...except answer itself. So as I arrived but didn't see her car, I started calling......and calling.....and calling.....and isn't it funny how they never ignore their phones except when a parent calls? NO ANSWER.... we were going to be late!
I called back home to inform teen boy that he would have to walk to school.
"Mom, it is raining!" was his horrified reply. I mean, it isn't like it was hard rain, or that his mother had ever let him down, but I couldn't be in two places at once.
In the middle of this, I started driving toward Benjamin's school, while continuing to call Sissy!
Finally, an answer. Sissy jumped out of bed and met me to take Benjamin. As we were transferring him to her car I saw it!
I burst out laughing!
His shirt was on backwards. Not the backwards that couldn't be noticed. OH, NO! The graphics were on the back...it was definitely on backwards. I just kept laughing as I asked for Sissy to get it turned around before she walked him to class.
During pouring rain, I turned my car around in haste to get baseball boy before he started his walk to school. In the "Super Mom" mode that we all have had to put on, I pulled up to get him with only a few minutes left.
He arrived on time...and he was dry.
All day I giggled to myself. Thank you, Lord....and NO, I am NOT the MOTHER with her ACT TOGETHER!!!
So if you pass a little boy in the store and his boots are on the wrong feet and shirt on backwards....please give that poor mom a break! Who knows, she might have needed two cars and only one was available...she might be having one of those days! Give her a smile of understanding! Haven't we all been there?.
Have an Awesome Weekend.
haha Oh Janette thanks for the walk down memory lane. I remember these days soo well, but it seems like soo long ago. It takes such organization doesn't to be the mom? I remember one day in particular. Melody had two games (we must have been nuts in those days!) A soccer game in the morning, and a softball game in the early afternoon. We brought her second uniform and changed her in the car as there wasn't even time to get home. My youngest son needed to be picked up from work and delivered for a study project with a group of kids from school at around the same time. We managed to get everything done and everyone was where they needed to be, BUT we were 1 inning into the softball game when we realized Mel was still wearing her hair gear from soccer....and had NO hat for softball. Oh my, those were the days. I love that your son LOVES his Sissy. Have a good week-end Janette! HUGS
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha, Janette!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny!
Whew, all that driving around is crazy! I remember it so well!
I can so relate ... and sympathize!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds horrible, but one of the happiest days of my life was when my older daughter got her license. Buying her a car was a financial strain, but it was worth it because now she not only drives herself to and from events but she is a wonderful help with getting her sister where she needs to be as well :-)
what a great post. Loved it. And yep...I've had those backward moments and have learned you just gotta roll with them. The life of a mom.....it's a total adventure. Have a great weekend Janette. I love reading your adventures...you just humanize everything. ☺☺
ReplyDeleteYes ma'am - we HAVE all been there! In our small town, I had 3 kids at three different campuses for a few years. You should have seen me! And I had at least one kid a week (it seemed like) that someone forgot a book or something. And soccer practice, dance, guitar lessons, T ball, ballet etc etc etc.... YOU know how it is! Took one child to school one day with two different shoes... :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, that is so cute. Yes, many, many times have I needed a wife. I was thinking of that yesterday. My list was so long that I thought, if I had a wife I could get every thing done on this list. I laughed to myself. I am glad there isn't another one, but you know, it would sure be nice to have a clone or something. :) I am glad you saw the shirt before he got to school. :) You have a lovely weekend too.
ReplyDeleteHaha so glad you saw his shirt! Too funny. I always love when kids show up and have their shoes on the wrong feet. However, I did that last fall with moccasins in my haste to go junking with my girls!
ReplyDeleteYup. I'm pretty sure I've been there and more than once! Cute story.
ReplyDeleteYou are a great mom, Janette, and this story just proves it. I remember wild and crazy days like that when my two boys were in school and needing to be here and there and everywhere.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed weekend.
I could picture your every move.
ReplyDeleteGreat title, A Two Car Day. How did our moms do it?
Glad to see that your day end well.
I can just see it! What a riot you are Janette. Last year we had one boy who would arrive to school in his pj's. This year they made a new ruling that even the Pre-K classes have to wear uniforms. I don't know if it had anything to do with little Ishan. :)
ReplyDeleteLove you,
Debbie
This is one for the memory books and will always be a fun one. I think any Mom can identify with this story. Even though we only had two children there were days that even two cars and two drivers were not enough. :o) Great post!
ReplyDeleteMy Brandon got dressed Friday and had his shirt on backwards-funny thing was he argued with me about it until he finally pulled the next back and could see the tag under his chin. :) LoL I once went somewhere and it wasn't until I got there that I realized I had two different shoes on!! ha!
ReplyDeleteMakes life interesting. Thanks again so much for my pillow and our yummy cookies. I just love it. Today every time I passed through my room it would make me smile to see it there. I hope you have a great weekend.
Love ya
Oh, Janette! What a day! Some days it is just harder to get it all done!! Great job!! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteJust last week, at work, I suddenly noticed the shell I was wearing was on backwards! Not particularly noticable but still, what is my excuse? A quick trip to the ladies room and I was put back together, whew.
ReplyDeleteI had to chuckle on this one. Yes, every mom trys and still can have one of "those days". But if I see a mama with one of those days I pray to remember to give her a encouraging smile and word.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your wonderful story.
Blessings and ((HUGS))

Yep, I remember those days. Still have them now even without any kids to shuffle around! When someone asks how the day is going, I tell them, "If my pencil lead breaks, I'm in real trouble."
ReplyDeleteGlad it all worked out well in the end. I hope you had a moment to take a deep breathe, enjoy a cup of calming tea, or coffee, and re-group before you started on the next round!
Janette - I'm exhausted just reading this! What a day - you need some tea! ANd, rain, too? Isn't the Lord good to limit the hours in our day after all (even though we always think we need more) since endless hours in a day would not afford the satisfaction of coming to the end of one and putting our feet up with a sigh. Glad you got it all together - eventually! And, such a good reminder about running ragged mommies . . .
ReplyDeleteThinking of my sweet daughter-in-law with this - she's a wife, mom, school teacher, and finishing her degree - all at the same time. Lord, bless her - she's beat! Glad I've got her to visit this weekend . . .
Joy!
Kathy
BTW - Have you seen my husband's new blog? Such a blessing to be assisting him with it! He's at www.rosssheeppen.blogspot.com
LOL! Oh I have had those days! Well at least Benjamin had his shirt on! LOL!
ReplyDeleteToo cute! I'm glad you had a great moment of laughter in the rain! :)
ReplyDeleteI remember once when we were all kids, my dad came home from work and said "thanks for the interesting sandwich today"...my mom was so rushed she forgot the meat and sent him to work with two pieces of bread w/mustard)...:)
Janett
ReplyDeleteI had to smile! I remember those days with four kids at home and all of them going different directions.
But really, it was the happiest times of my life!
Ah yes... I remember it well. (In my head I sound like Maurice Chevalier) and to think that when I talk of those days I always cry a little in my throat with the remembrance of them and say something like, "Those were the days..."
ReplyDeleteWhen you got to the part about the shirt on backwards, I laughed right out loud. I SHOULD have expected it since it was one of those type of days, but it still took me by comical surprise.
Hope you checked your own shirt.
Just sayin'...
I think EVERY mother needs a few experiences like these in her repertoire! I'm assuming everyone made it home at the end of the day...
ReplyDelete(insert BIG SMILE here).
Hello Janette,
ReplyDeleteThank you for such a fun post...and a good laugh.
What memories!
You deserve a bar of chocolate or a jar of Nutella! Blessings!
