It's A Dirty Job, But Someone Has to Do It

There are jobs that we all don't want to admit need to be done.  I so enjoy posting on making a wonderful dessert I had pinned on Pinterest or a finished project, but life isn't all Pinterest and success.  Life tends to have twist and turns which can clog us up....so was the case for six days in our home.

Yes! it was clogged!!!!!!!!!!  The boys toilet.

google image
For six days I attempted to unclog that thing.

I used the plunger!

I used the auger!

I even watched You Tube videos and followed all instructions

I put bleach in and let it stand.

I twisted the arms of my sons and hubby to try also....no one was winning this clogged fight.

I knew from day one what to do...don't we always?
But instead the job became a mountain and procrastination set in.
My home builder son said, "Oh!, NO mom don't do that!", but he wasn't living in the house with a clogged toilet.

So I got up..."took the bull by the horns" and pulled my resistant sons into the bathroom to conqueror the beast.  They could use their strong muscles and I would direct the action to win this battle.

Yes we did...we took the toilet off the floor...we wrestled with the clogging substance and WON!!!!

Those dirty jobs we don't want to do  usually are accomplished in  only  minutes.  Yes, it took a whole 20 minutes to get it all taken care of and back into its rightful place.

Now is there a lesson here or what?  January is still the beginning of the year.  I am looking at the battle we won and seeing how the twist and turns caused the problem, but it was accelerated  by procrastination.
Lesson learned....don't make a mountain out of a mole hill...stare it straight in the face and pull that hill down fast.

  1. Okay, If I had a giant award I would give it to you right now. You took the toilet off??? That is the bravest thing ever. I find myself just cringing at the thought. I love your spiritual applications as I can always here the Lord the clearest when I was cleaning up some mess in front of the toilet. I will remember this. It really is a awesome lesson to be learned.
I am so in awe of you. :)

  2. Unbelievable! Every time we take the toilet off we can never get it back on right. You win the home maintenance award. I am impressed, as well as embarrassed to tell you how many projects need to be taken in hand around here :)

  3. Yea! I bet you are doing the Happy Dance, right about now.
That was one job I don't think I would tackle. I'd call a plumber. Not you! Unbelievable!
Yup, you get the award or metal for, Job Well Done.

  4. I hear you. Procrastination is the enemy. Just do it and get it over with should be my motto.

  5. Hooray! You won! And not a plumber among you! I admit, I would have gone for the phone and the professional. But, we are not in possession of strapping young sons - though the young adults from church do meet here often enough. But, I already grabbed them for my basement re-fit last month so I used up all my man-handler points til March, maybe. Love the spiritual lesson - always one to be had - especially in the clogs of life!

    Joy!

  6. YAY!! I am soo impressed!! I would have called the plumber, or my brother, haha...Though I was quite impressed with my hubby this week-end as our bathroom shower was just draining SOOOO slow. I hate that! And it was getting worse and worse. Anyway, he took it apart and used a snake and now is it draining perfectly!! When I think of how long we have been putting up with it...How we procrastinate!! Have a good day!! HUGS

  7. Janette,
Once again - you are a "working wonder" as my grandmother would have said.

I'm with some of the other commenters, in that I would have called that plumber ASAP!

Hats off to you, lady. :)

  8. Good for you! You won the battle. We have had to take our toilet off in our autistic son's bathroom more than once. He has put nearly everything down that toilet including a little football, tons of toilet paper, whole uneaten apples, and many small toys. Once after several days of working on one of the toilets my husband took it off and was walking up the drive with a new one when he dropped it on the concrete and broke it all to pieces. Oh joy! Of course we then had to buy another new one.

  9. I think I needed to hear this today. I have my learning room that seems to be a catch all and I have to dig it out....again. We are moving the plant table in there and I want to organize my sewing area in there too. I have to get motivated to de clutter it ASAP so we can move the plant table. Never ending juggle isn't it? Thanks for inspiring me and encouraging me to... just do it and get it over with.

    Blessings and ((HUGS))

  11. Wow... in the future I have heard dawn dishwashing soap works if you let it sit for a few hours. I can't even imagine taking the whole thing off the floor. You are a brave soul.

  12. I hate clogged toilets and have never had to actually take the toilet apart. For that breathtaking, award winning feat I applaud you. I'm thinking you win The Plunger Award for that one :)

  13. Wow, you are a keeper, for sure!
I hope your DH appreciates you girl
I am glad you had your sons handy for the muscle and weren't wrestling the stool yourself.
Sometimes we just have to do the job ourselves!!

  14. Good on you. Most toilet bases I've seen are cemented to the floor which would be more of a challenge.

  15. Well girlfriend...I am impressed....You took hold of the problem and did what was necessary.....Just like Jesus tells us to do with sin....confront it, confess it, and move on with forgiveness.....

What a lesson you taught those boys in what it means to perservere.......and get the job done.....

Those boys have a wonderful mom.....

  16. OK, Fess up. It was a sock monkey, wasn't it? Or maybe a Power Ranger?
(You can tell I don't have little ones anymore because I can't remember what the hot toy of the decade is these days.)

Good job for you Power Mama! I am planning to learn the lesson about not procrastinating some day.

I just keep putting it off.

And friend, I read your post about the "too busy" card. I'm so sorry about your Uncle.

  17. How 'bout "pull this toilet down fast"!!!

You go, girl! I'd rather tackle something like that myself, too. I hate to pay somebody to do it - and hate to wait on hubby to do it!

  18. Great job! That was very impressive indeed. No plumber for you! Also, I am sorry to hear about your Uncle from your last post. Blessings.

  22. This is the truth, pure and simple. We seem to be procrastinators by nature... and oh, how we drag the torture out! Great reminder, Janette! Thank you. I have a couple of things I am procrastinating on and I think they drain the energy right out of you trying to avoid them!! blessings ~ tanna

  23. I am totally impressed! We once fixed our fridge via youtube. Isn't the internet great?

Also, this "but life isn't all Pinterest and success." is so true. Amen! And God will send us reminders!

    Love and hugs!

  24. Yup, done the dirty job myself a few times. And yes, you've pointed out such a very good lesson here.

I am very skilled at mountain-making. I can even craft an Everest out of an anthill. And procrastination is my middle name. I've tried improving on that, but tomorrow's probably a better day to start anyway (LOL!)

I believe that God wants us to *face our giants* - TODAY. And it is with HIS provision of daily bread, that we will be empowered!

    GOD BLESS!

  25. wow Jeannette. Double wow. You guys actually took the toilet off and fixed it. I'm with Farm girl. You get the absolute award. I laughed reading this and then I thought...fighter. She's a fighter...determined and focused. Love that about you. And so even if you procrastinated...you came back amazing. Have a great low key Friday. You earned it.

  28. Don't take no for an answer. I'm in the plumber group, especially after trying the standard fix-it procedures. I'm not afraid to try and the internet is definately the go-to source. I'll have to add you to that list!

  29. What an accomplishment! Once again I leave here a better person for the conviction of Janette's sage advice. Procrastination. Yup.

    Blessings, Debbie

  32. You are so right, doing it the right way, the first time often is the fastest and best. And, you are also right, it takes courage to face the issue straight on and just do it. Kudos to you for facing it and winning!
