After thirty years of being surrounded by family, church groups, and I must add BOYS, well what wouldn't need of a face lift?
When we begin buying furniture as a young married couple I went for country and durable. I wanted furniture that would stand the test of time and made you feel welcome in our home. Of course at age 20 I couldn't have imagined that I would still have these pieces 30 years later, but I do. So with changes in our lifestyle I have been so grateful for buying good furniture in the beginning, but now they need a face lift.
Rug - a garage sale find for $40.00 to help keep white renter carpet white! Tables in need of face lift! |
To the horror of my Dad (sorry Dad) I have started to paint my honey oak tables.
I first started with staining the tops of the tables with black stain.
Pedestal was painted in a Robin Egg Blue....like my spray paint called Bahama Breeze
De-stressed through sanding and adding an oak glaze over the top.
Finished Coffee table know holds our seasonal picture books, the bread bowl from my husband's great-grandmother, filled with roses from him, and a new vase. Updated and yet, still my 30 year old table.
My husband's only request....PLEASE DON'T PAINT THE GRAND PIANO!!! Which I never intended to do, but I will change out the seat cover!
Now this is the type of face lift I can handle!

I love to see how creative you can be. Everything looks so lovely and yet such a bargain. Good for you Janette.
ReplyDeleteLove you,
Debbie
I really think it's the most fun of all to decorate on a dime and see what happens. Your table looks super! Between your table and my shutters, we could go into business!! :)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I really like it. Great rug too.
ReplyDeleteI painted my hubby's dressers that we were given when we got married. Well, one I stained cherry instead of oak color and the large one I painted white with purple, green, and pink stripes and flowers to go in Alyssa's room. She is starting to outgrown that on too though so it is in need of a face lift too. I am actually thinking of taking all kinds of scrapbook paper and modge podging it. It will see-I haven't decided so sure yet.
Hope you have a great day.
Love
Jill
Oh, Janette I LOVE the table!!!
ReplyDeleteYour "face lift" photo is great..... I love the idea of redecorating!
Finally getting settled here.... love this area..... and China Doll has really adjusted to her new high school- already joined their gymnastics team! Amen!
Catch up soon.... and thank you for the wonderful comment on my recent post. xoxoox
My goodness!!! I love the table!!! That look is so my style. I refinished my hope chest, a side table and china cabinet in an aged cream color. Great job!!
ReplyDeleteJanette, it looks really great, you did a wonderful job on the sanding & glazing. My husband would never let me paint, he took a wood-working class in college.:)
ReplyDeleteLove looking at your projects. You do such a great job!
ReplyDeleteI love Cranberry Thanksgiving. I used to read that to my class and then follow the recipe. May have to try that with my kids.
You did a great job on the table. It always lifts my spirits to make a change. That bowl is such a sweet treasure.
ReplyDeleteOh Janette, this piece is gorgeous--you did an outstanding job--it is giving me some ideas much to my husband's dismay--grin, grin!
ReplyDeleteHope your day is blessed!
Love,
Dianne
I think it looks wonderful! I like your before picture too. It looks very warm and inviting and I would love to come and have tea there.
ReplyDeleteYou are so very talented!
Absolutely gorgeous!!! I know...we have hand-me-down furniture in the living room that I refuse to replace until all teens and dogs have outgrown the "flopping exuberantly down on the couch" stage...thank goodness the people who gave it to us had "sturdy" taste, lol! Can't wait to see how you recover the grand piano's bench...I've been needing to do that for a long time, but it's just so far down on the wish list ;)
ReplyDeleteI can so relate, Janette. I have 22-year-old furniture. Some of it will remain as is, for they are truly timeless pieces (we tried to buy quality furniture the first time around), but some of it, even though it's still in great condition, may end up being replaced instead of upgraded. I do love your table, though. Hmmmm....
ReplyDeletethat table is beautiful!!! you couldn't buy
ReplyDeleteone that perfect.
you are a magician, young lady.
love,
lea
I really love your table! You
ReplyDeletedid a terrific job. I want to
paint several pieces we have
but my husband thinks painting
furniture is awful Why are so
many men like that?? What brand
of paint did you use? I've heard
Rustoleum is good.
I love it!!! Blue looks fabulous on that table. Great job, Janette.
ReplyDeleteBut I agree... don't paint the piano! (((Hugs)))
I love the it! The black and blue are very wonderful together! You are incredibly inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it...you really are quite talented...don't think I would have had the courage to paint oak, nor would I have ever thought of putting those colors together. They just look great. I am hoping to get my hope chest back soon. I have a feeling you could have turned it into something spectacular. HUGS
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented, Janette! This looks wonderful. Great job!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I'm impressed. I think about doing things like this but that's usually all the further I get. lol
ReplyDeletep.s. I'm having a cookbook giveaway at my blog if you're interested!
Janette,
ReplyDeleteThe table looks terrific! Isn't painting furniture satisfying?
Wow. You picked out furniture that had great lines and timeless style. I no longer have furniture from my 20's. Let's just say my taste wasn't 'developed' yet!
Hats off to you for a job well done! Love, love, love the coffee table. What fun! Thanks for sharing! And, I love the rug too!
ReplyDeleteLove it, love it, love it!! So creative. What a make-over/face lift. Bringing new life into the old, what better way to do it. Love the colors you chose.
ReplyDeleteIn our bedroom, our dresser is one that by husband's parents gave us which had been in their home years ago. It was a dark wood/cherry finish, big mirror and brass drawer pulls. I painted it cream and then distressed it, changed out the knobs and it looks almost brand new. Saved so much money. Isn't it a great feeling!!
oh, you made me almost laugh (which is
ReplyDeleteREALLY good, because mostly i just smile
at the super funny stuff!) at your comment.
"not me, i can just do any old thing i want)
Gorgeous!! You did a great job on that table and I absolutely love your color choices.
ReplyDeletePraise the Lord for your creativeness esp. in using color. I am such a black or white person and I would really like to branch out and use color.
ReplyDeleteThe blue you used is so pretty and makes a soft and delicate statement.
ok, you got a chuckle out of that one. but
ReplyDeletejust you wait until friday, because that post
is come uppance, which my computer has
told me is not a word.
hee hee ho ho!
Janette,
ReplyDeleteI like your "face lifts" with your furniture. I could NEVER trust myself to do this kind of work, for I fear I would make a mess of things. :)
Also, I love your $40.00 rug! :)
Blessings,
-Lady Rose
