After thirty years of being surrounded by family, church groups, and I must add BOYS, well what wouldn't need of a face lift?
When we begin buying furniture as a young married couple I went for country and durable. I wanted furniture that would stand the test of time and made you feel welcome in our home. Of course at age 20 I couldn't have imagined that I would still have these pieces 30 years later, but I do. So with changes in our lifestyle I have been so grateful for buying good furniture in the beginning, but now they need a face lift.

To the horror of my Dad (sorry Dad) I have started to paint my honey oak tables.
I first started with staining the tops of the tables with black stain.
Pedestal was painted in a Robin Egg Blue....like my spray paint called Bahama Breeze
De-stressed through sanding and adding an oak glaze over the top.
Finished Coffee table know holds our seasonal picture books, the bread bowl from my husband's great-grandmother, filled with roses from him, and a new vase. Updated and yet, still my 30 year old table.
My husband's only request....PLEASE DON'T PAINT THE GRAND PIANO!!! Which I never intended to do, but I will change out the seat cover!

ReplyDeleteI painted my hubby's dressers that we were given when we got married. Well, one I stained cherry instead of oak color and the large one I painted white with purple, green, and pink stripes and flowers to go in Alyssa's room. She is starting to outgrown that on too though so it is in need of a face lift too. I am actually thinking of taking all kinds of scrapbook paper and modge podging it. It will see-I haven't decided so sure yet.

My goodness!!! I love the table!!! That look is so my style. I refinished my hope chest, a side table and china cabinet in an aged cream color. Great job!!

Absolutely gorgeous!!! I know...we have hand-me-down furniture in the living room that I refuse to replace until all teens and dogs have outgrown the "flopping exuberantly down on the couch" stage...thank goodness the people who gave it to us had "sturdy" taste, lol! Can't wait to see how you recover the grand piano's bench...I've been needing to do that for a long time, but it's just so far down on the wish list ;)

Some of it will remain as is, for they are truly timeless pieces (we tried to buy quality furniture the first time around), but some of it, even though it's still in great condition, may end up being replaced instead of upgraded. I do love your table, though. Hmmmm....

ReplyDeleteIn our bedroom, our dresser is one that by husband's parents gave us which had been in their home years ago. It was a dark wood/cherry finish, big mirror and brass drawer pulls. I painted it cream and then distressed it, changed out the knobs and it looks almost brand new. Saved so much money. Isn't it a great feeling!!
